Sonya Ong supports SEED in the eco-inclusive enterprise Accelerator & Catalyser programmes, Policy Prototyping Labs, communications strategies and advocacy.
Sonya gained professional experience in the media and public relations agencies Starcom MediaVest Group and Burson-Marsteller in Kuala Lumpur. In these positions, she worked on corporate and consumer brand campaigns where she managed client portfolios, produced media and audience research insights and planned strategic media campaigns.
Sonya earned a Masters in Public Policy at the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin with a concentration in policy and data analysis, focusing on public communication and development policies. As part of her Master’s thesis in collaboration with the ASEAN Foundation, she examined the issue of citizen participation and identity ownership between institutions and citizens in South East Asia using data from the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA). She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Media and Communications with first-class honours from the University of Melbourne, Australia and a certificate in Design Thinking from D-School Malaysia.
