Siyanda Siko
Siyanda Siko is currently enrolled for MSc Sustainable Development at SOAS University of London. He has 13 years of professional experience working in various capacities for the South African government and spent the last 5 years working at the International Labour Organization (ILO), a specialised agency of the United Nations.
Currently, he is the Country Coordinator of the United Nation Interagency programme called Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) in South Africa. PAGE was launched in 2013 as a direct response by the United Nations (UN) system to the call at Rio+20, to support countries wishing to embark on greener and more sustainable growth trajectories. PAGE combines the mandate and experiences of five UN agencies – UN Environment, UNDP, UNIDO, UNITAR and the ILO. The expertise and networks of these five UN agencies offer integrated and holistic support to South Africa’s transition towards a low-carbon with the Ministry for Environmental Affairs (DEA) being the key national government counterpart.
His role as PAGE Country Coordinator affords him the opportunity to work closely with the South African national government and coordinate an integrated package of technical assistance along with institutional capacity development of public and private entities and not least to coordinate research into the green economy to enable evidence-based policy making.
