SEA-RAE develops, installs and maintains small-scale renewable energy solutions tailored to the social, environmental and economic needs of developing communities. Its innovation lies in combining green technological solutions with affordable financing plans that encourage community ownership. Initially designed for energy-poor communities in the Mekong Delta, the enterprise’s energy technologies are also suitable for application in other areas of Vietnam and across the whole of Southeast Asia.

Eco-Inclusive Impacts
SEA-RAE's innovation lies in combining green technological solutions with affordable financing plans that adapt to the needs of local communities and increase their resilience to climate change whilst encouraging community ownership.
  • Community empowerment and capital-building through local ownership of energy facilities.
  • Reducing time and money spent on fuel collection, giving community members new possibilities.
  • Improving health by reducing the inhalation of noxious combustion products from fossil-based fuels.
  • Eliminating kerosene and diesel fuels in the community.
  • Educating communities about sustainable energy infrastructure and climate change adaption strategies.
  • Reducing emissions by approximately one ton of CO2 per year per household in each SEA-RAE community project.
  • Increasing labour productivity by providing reliable and climate change-adaptive access to energy.
  • Developing a new mini-grid-based manufacturing in the region.
  • Investing in environmental research and development to improve and expand energy infrastructure in Southeast Asia.

Partners

Southeast Asia Renewable and Adaptive Energy (SEA-RAE) is a consortium of academic and business partners with the common goal of providing sustainable energy services to rural areas, particularly through photovoltaic arrays and hydroenergy harvesters. They source labour locally and educate community members about operations and maintenance, thus creating resilient technical installations.

Southeast Asia Renewable and Adaptive Energy (SEASEA-RAE) serves as a research hub for the international SEA-RAE enterprise and responsible for coordinating the international network, partners and for developing the venture's energy and financial models.

Energy Conservation Research and Development Center is the primary conduit between Vietnamese communities in need of energy provision services and SEA-RAE’s US-based research hub.

Minh Tran Co. Ltd provides solar panels and other components for SEA-RAE’s infrastructure-building activities in Vietnam.
