Producing high quality organic foods to end food insecurity
Tac-Maz Sustainable Ventures grows vegetables and fruit and raises different breeds of livestock organically. They use renewable energy for irrigation, and produce organic fertiliser to maximise climate change adaptation impact.
The enterprise also empowers women farmers in their network to form cooperatives and provide them with technical support in sustainable horticultural production to increase productivity and environmental conservation. Products are supplied to catering companies, retail shops, restaurants and local markets.
Eco-inclusive Impacts
Tac-Maz Sustainable Ventures provides organic fertiliser, and solar energy for sustainable land and crop management to reduce women farmers’ vulnerability to climate change.
- Supporting women farmers to form official cooperatives
- Providing capacity building and livelihoods for women farmers in sustainable smart agriculture
- Promotion of climate friendly, sustainable farming methods to improve food security
- Raised and distributed 2,500 Moringa tree seedlings contributing to the absorption of an average of 42,000kg CO2 in a year
- Supported the recovery of 11 hectares of poorly managed land for women farmers
- Contribute to increased income for women farmers and job opportunities for youths
- Generating 30% profit from farming proceeds that increase income of women farmers
- Aiming to employ 10 full-time workers and 6 part-time workers in 2021
Partners
Tac-Maz Sustainable Ventures is a social enterprise engaged in livestock and horticultural production. They aim to reduce food insecurity and lack of access to a variety of nutritious food products among rural, peri-urban and urban communities while providing economic opportunities to women farmers.
Clean Heat Solutions produces carbonised briquettes supplied to women farmers through Tac-Maz to reduce the time and risks in sourcing charcoal or firewood for their everyday energy needs.
Catering International and Services provides a market for the enterprise’s products in the catering industry in Malawi.
