Clinela Solar

Clinela provides medical lighting Solar Bags for off-grid communities
2021 SEED Low Carbon Award Clean Energy Kiyunga, Uganda

Clinela provides the Solar Bag on a lease-to-own-payment model with a monthly subscription of 60 USD for a period of 24 months. Clinela Solar Bags are designed as a safe, easy-to-use, rugged solar technology for health workers in challenging environments enabling them to save the lives of babies and mothers.

The Solar Bag aims to decrease complications during childbirth by introducing safe and reliable lighting, fetal monitoring and mobile communication for referrals and consultations, improving the safety and morale of midwives and doctors.

Eco-Inclusive Impacts

Clinela’s Solar Bag has enabled doctors and midwives to provide safer, timelier, and more effective routine obstetric care, and better treatment of major life-threatening birth-related health complications.
  • Enhancing working conditions of health workers providing emergency obstetric care in off-grid health centres
  • Improving the lives of 500,000+ families living in under resourced communities through improved access to safe childbirth services
  • The Solar Bag displaces fossil-fuel sources of lighting such as kerosene lanterns and diesel fuel generators thus reducing greenhouse gases and making for cleaner air conditions

  • Through improved energy-access as Clinela Solar customers have started creating micro-enterprises around solar grid systems, increasing earnings and financial freedom
