Awamo Water Solutions leases eco-friendly solar powered water ultra-filtration systems and provides business training to mission driven entrepreneurs in need of an effective water purification business.

Each Awamo franchise has created access to safe, affordable water by distributing over 15,350 litres of clean water to over 800 households in Lira within 8 months.

Water is sold in clean attractive, functional, returnable bottles (20 L, 7 L, 1.5 L volumes) sealed with a government quality certification. All the bottles are reusable and no throw-away plastic waste is created.

Our product (the solar powered water purifiers) helps to mitigate climate change by purifying 2,000 litres of contaminated water per hour while using only 200 W of solar energy.

Awamo Franchises leverage proximity by selling to 90% of the underserved population within walking distance of the store (2-3 km radius between each franchise).

Awamo Water Solutions manufactures solar powered water ultra-filtration systems using eco-friendly and locally-sourced materials. The enterprise generates revenue from selling water ultra-filtration systems to franchisees and entrepreneurs at wholesale prices using a ‘pay-as-you-go’ scheme, empowering first-time social entrepreneurs along the way.

First time entrepreneurs provide a 799 USD down payment for the solar powered water ultra-filtration system and subsequent monthly 319 USD installment payments to eventually own the franchise after 48 months.

Eco-Inclusive Impacts

Awamo Water Solutions help deliver more than 9 million litres of clean drinking water to more than 450 households in Lira.

Conducting 650+ sensitisation programmes about the benefits of clean water and sanitation to over 500 households in Lira.
Distributing 9+ million litres of clean drinkable water to 450+ households annually.
Lowering risks of pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lung cancer.

Increasing distribution of 10 ultra-filtration machines with production capacity of 2,000 litres to 10 districts in Uganda.
Recycling over 10,000 tonnes plastic waste into reusable PET-bottles monthly.
Reducing over 500,000 tonnes CO2 per year through reducing use of wood and charcoal for water boiling.

Generating over $100,000 from sales of 10 water purifiers for franchise entrepreneurs.
Creating jobs for a total of 150 women and 50 men in sales, production and technician roles.
Saving $110 in fuel costs (charcoal and wood) per family per month.
