SEED expands its presence in Asia to cultivate a wider network of eco-inclusive enterprises
As part of a new strategy to cultivate partnerships, strong local presence, and launch collaboration centers in key regions across the world, SEED is happy to announce the launch of SEED Thailand.
Expanding SEED Through Diversification
As part of a new strategy, SEED is working on further expanding its focus on the local capacity building by creating collaborating centers that build upon partnerships and strengthen the presence and local ownership of SEED in key regions around the world. One of these regions being Asia, we have an established a presence in Bangkok, Thailand at the end of 2017 and activities have kickstarted in January 2018.
SEED recognises the valuable contributions of Thai enterprises to address pressing environmental and social challenges through innovative approaches. Thailand is on the verge of a solar energy transformation as private companies have committed to investing at least USD 2 billion over the next five years in solar power production. Eco-inclusive enterprises play a crucial role in Thailand’s landscape and they are happening in various sectors across the country. These developments have helped frame Thailand as the perfect location for SEED’s first office in Asia; Thailand is expected to play a key role in propelling the growth of eco-inclusive enterprises not just in Thailand but also in Asia as a whole.
SEED's programme for 2018 in Asia
The first year of SEED’s Asia programme will be focused fully on Thailand and entails the identifying the most promising Thai eco-inclusive enterprise as part of the SEED Low Carbon Awards; disseminating selected tried-and-tested business models from around the globe, and offering aspiring Thai eco-entrepreneurs the opportunity to implement such business models through the Replicator programme. Furthermore, the newly developed Climate Finance Practitioner Labs will support the development of innovative financing solutions to replicate and scale-up eco-inclusive enterprise models in Asia.
SEED Thailand will cultivate a community of promising eco-inclusive enterprises in the region and incubate innovative climate finance instruments to the benefit of the wider Thai eco-inclusive enterprise network.
