Tawonga Cooking Oil Processing Enterprise finds a market for women farmers’ crops in the northern region of Malawi by producing cooking oil and other products from sunflower, soybean, and groundnut seeds using sustainable agriculture practices.

The enterprise produces cooking oil, soya pieces, animal feed, and washing soap made with sunflower, soybean, and groundnut seeds from women farmers. The products are distributed through direct sales and sales agents.

The company offers cooking oil on credit to small-scale businesses to substitute charcoal.

Eco-Inclusive Impacts

Tawonga Cooking Oil Processing Enterprise practices and promotes agroforestry, sustainable agriculture, afforestation, and reforestation. The enterprise shares knowledge on agricultural climate adaptation measures with women farmers.The enterprise trains local youth and women farmers on sustainable agriculture practices and overall business management while linking them to financial opportunities. The company also secures the market for its crops by making products with them.

The enterprise is directly engaged in afforestation activities, having planted over 210,000 trees (2023). The company also reduces deforestation by providing alternatives to traditional charcoal for cooking.
