Maungo Craft

Making handcrafted food products from the indigenous fruits of Botswana.
2023 SEED Climate Adaptation Award Lauréat-e Sustainable Agriculture Botswana

Maungo Craft makes handcrafted jams, syrups, fruit rolls, and hot sauce by upcycling the indigenous fruits of Botswana and pairing them with locally sourced vegetables. The products have less sugar and no artificial preservatives. Maungo Craft is currently the largest purchaser of Morula fruit pulp in Botswana.

The majority of Maungo Craft’s customers are women in urban areas who care about preserving the environment and good nutrition. In addition, the enterprise also supplies products to gifting companies and retail and hospitality outlets.

Eco-Inclusive Impacts

By making unique, award-winning, handcrafted jams, syrups, fruit rolls, and hot sauce from indigenous fruits of Botswana, Maungo Craft helps reduce food waste, promotes the preservation of GHG-absorbing trees, and connects the farming system to indigenous crops. These crops are often called neglected crops or orphan crops. These are the crops that Maungo Craft works to re-integrate into the food system.

The enterprise also creates jobs in local communities, increases food security in Botswana, and diversifies the country’s economy.
