Womenergy265

Improved cookstoves for low income and marginalised households
2021 SEED Climate Adaptation Award Clean Energy Malawi

Womenergy265 designs, produces and distributes improved cookstoves as well as ovens made from recycled car wheel rims, drums and scrap materials. Their target market are households that can barely afford a standard cookstove or oven for their daily cooking activities hence they employ a pay as you go model to ease access to their products.

The enterprise also produces and supplies biogas, LPG, briquettes, organic fertilizer and

livestock feed to various communities. The improved cookstoves help save time and fuel for users and provide employment opportunities for local communities.

Eco-inclusive Impacts

The promotion of improved cookstoves, clean fuels and efficient ovens helps to reduce charcoal-led deforestation and to increase household savings, thus contributing to an enhanced climate resilience of vulnerable communities.
  • Providing low-income households tools to free up time used to prepare meals towards income generation and educational activities
  • Empowering women employed as clean cooking entrepreneurs with alternative income stream
  • Reducing GHG emissions and deforestation that exacerbate the adverse effects of climate change
  • Reducing an average of 43% of carbon monoxide emissions from the use of clean cookstoves
  • Creating employment opportunities for women, empowering them financially
  • Increasing household savings up to 80% from using energy efficient cookstoves
