Integrated Water and Energy Technologies (IWET)

Affordable, modern and clean energy to marginalised communities
2021 SEED Climate Adaptation Award Clean Energy Lilongwe, Malawi

IWET distributes and installs mobile solar-powered water pump systems to small-holder farmer groups in the Mchinji District and solar-for-home systems to households. Farmers use the mobile pumps to pump water from shallow wells for irrigation during the dry season. The systems are sold to farmers using a flexible payment method over a period of 6 months.

The enterprise also conducts training for farmers focusing on use of solar-powered technologies and entrepreneurship skills. Farmers also receive agri-technical advice through a mobile messaging platform developed by IWET to ensure continuous support.
