Eco-Clean Ghana Foundation

Eco-Clean collects and recycles plastic waste into reusable products
2021 SEED Low Carbon Award Waste Management Wa-Bamahu, Ghana

Eco-Clean Ghana recycles waste into resources and creates entrepreneurial opportunities for the vulnerable in our society. It uses permaculture and ecovillage sustainable modules in turning waste into resources and creating livelihood empowerment opportunities.

Eco-Clean Ghana works with farmers, women, youth and schools in rural communities in Ghana to turn plastic waste into school bags, laptop bags and backpacks. The enterprise also has other lines of products and activities such as mushroom farming and training. Revenue is generated from the sales of these products.

_______

Our heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr Charles Katere and the Eco-Clean Ghana Foundation who lost their son and leader on 27th June 2023 in Wa in a motor accident. At SEED, we remember Mr Charles Katere not only as an Award winner but as innovative young man with impactful works in the eco-enterprise space in Ghana. He welcomed new ideas, inspired others, and smiled.

May your soul rest in peace, Mr Katere!

Eco-inclusive Impacts

Eco-Clean Ghana’s business actively promotes a circular waste management model by converting waste into useful resources and helping to reduce waste and air pollution. The enterprise gives back to the community by providing training for youths on techniques to turn waste into useful resources.

Advocacy and sensitisation programs are organised to educate different communities about the harmful effects of improper waste disposal and how to implement proper waste management. Youth and women in the communities are employed as staff for plastic collection and the making of recycled bags.
  • Conducting advocacy programs on irresponsible waste disposal
  • Providing 10 communities with dustbins to separate waste
  • Training farmers on turning degradable materials into organic fertiliser
  • Empowering children to be environmentally conscious through school programmes
  • Recycled over 4 tonnes of plastic and non-plastic waste into new products, saving over 8 tonnes of CO2.
  • Diverting organic agriculture waste into growing mushrooms and making fertilizer for farmers
  • Reducing waste and air pollution by utilising materials that would have otherwise been burned
  • Promoting economic regeneration by training youth and women in recycled bags production, mushroom farming, and cosmetics production
  • Providing livelihood empowerment training for 205 people in 5 communities, benefitting over 2,000 customers
