The Government of Flanders and adelphi global gGmbH are pleased to announce the launch of the new SEED project in Malawi aimed to contribute to sustainably boosting productivity and incomes by fostering a conducive environment and directly supporting climate-smart agricultural micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the Mzimba and Kasungu districts.
Aligned with Malawi’s Vision 2063 and building on SEED’s previous work in the country, the project will prioritise inclusive development by supporting enterprises in underrepresented urban centres, rural areas, and agricultural hubs. With a strong emphasis on climate-smart agriculture and commercialisation, the initiative will strengthen the role of MSMEs in driving sustainable economic growth and resilience in local communities.
During the previous 10 years of working in Southeast Africa, SEED supported 108 enterprises in Malawi, established a strong network of support, and provided training to local business development service (BDS) providers on how to work with green MSMEs. The new initiative will also reinforce and expand partnerships with local business advisors, government institutions, and the broader entrepreneurial ecosystem. By leveraging these collaborations, SEED aims to strengthen the support infrastructure for green enterprises and foster a culture of innovation, cooperation, and long-term sustainability.
In 2025, SEED Malawi aims to select teams of aspiring climate-smart eco-inclusive entrepreneurs for participation in the Incubation Programme. They will receive tailored capacity building to develop business plans and develop their business models in the agricultural sector to their local markets. Furthermore, SEED will organise a training of trainers for 20 selected BDS providers, who will receive training in incubation and acceleration level support.
