Empowering women and their families by promoting their argan heritage
Solar Village Essaouira includes ecotourism, sustainable farming and argan processing cooperatives that aim to improve the living conditions of the inhabitants of 4 douars around the Solar Village in the Essaouira region by developing an ecotourism third-location that enhances the argan heritage. Offering an authentic experience to national and international tourists. Preservation of tree resources through reforestation of the argan tree and implementation of sustainable agricultural practices.
Village Solaire, founded in 2017 to solar electrify a village just 20 km from Essaouira, aims to empower women and their families by promoting their argan heritage and traditional rural skills. The project aims to develop an eco-tourism project that respects the environment: 300 families are involved to market their products and services and replant argan trees in permaculture to create a 100% self-sufficient Solar Village.
Run by the village's young women, the idea was born of a training-action project aimed at develop their skills and promote the reforestation of argan trees, with the participation of men. This initiative has transformed the Village Solaire into a center for sustainable initiatives, where women are agents of change promoting environmentally-friendly practices for present and future generations
